The Union of Judges and Public Prosecutors has noted an attempt “to dynamite the situation” so that the trial for the Tempi accident will not take place, on the occasion of “the unprecedented events taking place at the Court of Larissa with the duo Konstantopoulou-Karustianou”.
The Union speaks of “political exploitation of a criminal procedure” and the commission of serious autopsy felonies and misdemeanors that “remind scenes of the Wild West”.
“Neither the prosecutors need special encouragement to initiate criminal prosecutions of self-incriminating offences, nor the bar associations for serious disciplinary offences of their members, nor the government to take the necessary legislative measures we have long proposed so that the proceedings in the hearing on Monday can begin smoothly,” the association said, among other things.
Specifically, the Judges and Prosecutors Association in its statement said :
“The unprecedented events taking place in the Court of Larissa with the duo Konstantopoulou-Karustianou and the commission of serious autopsy felonies and misdemeanors, reminiscent of scenes of the Wild West.
Bullying, occupation of public places, expulsion of judicial officials that are at the limits of human endurance, illegal video recordings are circulated on the internet as an achievement and confirmation of a false anti-systemism that hides a fascist mentality. It is their declared intention to escalate the situation and to prevent the trial of the Tempi accident from taking place by any means. The masks have fallen and their false interest in justice has been revealed. They have put against the relatives of the victims who have been waiting for 3 years for the proceedings to start, the lawyers who have prepared themselves to exercise their defensive duties, the whole society that is demanding Justice.
Their only goal is the political exploitation of a criminal procedure by exploiting loopholes in the law and the cover of parliamentary immunity, cracks in a system that allows such stunts. No special encouragement is needed by prosecutors to initiate criminal prosecutions of self-incriminating offences, nor by the bar associations for serious disciplinary offences of their members, nor by the government to take the necessary legislative measures we have long proposed to ensure that the proceedings in the hearing on Monday start smoothly.”
