U.S. President Donald Trump said today at the start of a cabinet meeting at the White House that Iran is eager to reach a deal with the U.S., but noted that Washington’s demands have not yet been met.

“Iran is very eager. They are very keen to reach an agreement. So far, they haven’t gotten there… We are not satisfied, but we will be (eventually). Either we’ll be (satisfied) or we’ll just have to finish the job,” Donald Trump told reporters.

They’re not satisfied with the outcome of the deal, but we’ll get there in the end.

Cautiously optimistic about the progress of negotiations with the Iranian side, US diplomatic chief Marco Rubio expressed. “I think there has been some progress and some interest,” adding that “we’ll see in the coming hours and days” whether meaningful progress can be made.

Earlier, Trump made clear to PBS News that the US would not offer Iran sanctions relief in exchange for Tehran handing over its highly enriched uranium reserves.

White House press secretary Olivia Wales told reporters that negotiations with Iran are proceeding smoothly, adding that President Trump has made his red lines clear.
