The Public Employment Service’s (PES) training programs are proving to be an important tool for boosting employment, according to the last three years’ worth of data.

In total, more than 260,731 citizens have found or retained employment through the training programmes, with a total investment of more than €500 million. €500 million from national and European resources, confirming the commitment to modernize the country’s human resources.

It should be noted that, a few days ago, applications for the new programme for upgrading and retraining in digital and green skills and financial literacy opened, with an educational allowance (voucher) of up to 750 euros. The programme is aimed at employees in the private sector who wish to upgrade their skills and enhance their career prospects in modern and dynamic sectors of the economy and 114,384 places are available under the call.

The absorption picture by programme

As shown in the data from the DIFA:

In the “skills upgrading and retraining programmes in high demand sectors, with emphasis on digital and green skills”, the first cycle recorded an absorption rate of 52%, as, out of 102.477 unemployed participants, 53,272 were integrated into the labour market.

In the second cycle, the rate was 50%, with 18,801 absorptions out of a total of 37,602 trained unemployed.

The performance of the “programme for upgrading skills and retraining workers in all sectors of the economy, with emphasis on digital and green skills” is particularly high, where 92% of the participants (104.322 out of 113,394) maintained or strengthened their position in the labour market.

The results are also positive in the “Integrated Training and Employment Action for unemployed 25-45 year olds”, with a 66% absorption rate (5,117 out of 7,753).

In the “Continuing Vocational Training Programme for Upgrading Green Skills” for unemployed people, the take-up rate was 46% (18,429 out of 40.063 participants), while in the “Continuing Vocational Training Programmes for upgrading green skills” for employees, a particularly high performance of 93% was recorded, with 60,790 absorptions out of a total of 65,366 participants.

The training programmes in “cutting-edge” specialisations and the “scale up” open-type programmes, which are still in progress, show, so far, absorption rates of 26% and 25% respectively, but these rates are expected to be revised upon their completion.

Gianna Chormova: DYPA training programmes lead to real jobs

In a statement to the Athenian-Macedonian News Agency, Yianna Chormova, the director of DYPA, stresses the value of targeting the programs, noting:

“The data proves that DYPA’s training programs lead to real jobs. We are designing actions tailored to the needs of the economy, with a focus on digital and green skills, which are the passport to new-age jobs.

Already more than 260,000 citizens have found or kept jobs through our programs.

We will continue to use all available resources, designing even more specialized and targeted programs, with the ambition of even greater penetration in the labor market, bridging the gap between the skills available in the workforce and the needs of businesses.
