With a reduction in direct emissions CO₂ from electricity generation by 58% in 2025, compared to 2019, and total investments of more than €24 billion. by 2030 in Renewable Energy Sources, energy storage and new energy infrastructure projects, PPC continues to reduce its environmental footprint and accelerate the transformation of its energy portfolio.
This year’s World Environment Day is dedicated to climate action, highlighting the need to accelerate initiatives that help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and build resilience to the impacts of climate change.
In parallel, PPC’s de-lignification strategy is already delivering measurable results. In 2025, direct CO₂ emissions from lignite-fired power plants were reduced by 77% compared to 2019, while lignite-fired generation was reduced to 2.7 TWh, corresponding to 13% of PPC’s total production. At the same time, installed renewable energy capacity rose to 7.2 GW from 3.3 GW in 2019.

In addition, the validation of the PPC Group’s emission reduction targets by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) confirms their alignment with the most recognized international scientific standards for addressing climate change. In this context, the Group aims to reduce Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions per generated MWh by 73.7% by 2030, compared to the 2021 baseline year.

An important pillar of the Group’s energy transition is the development of large-scale renewable energy projects. A typical example is the cluster of photovoltaic power plants in Ptolemaida and Amyndeon, the largest group of photovoltaic projects in Europe. The photovoltaic plants with a total installed capacity of 2,130 MW utilise land from former lignite mines and are estimated to prevent the emission of more than 1.5 million tonnes of CO₂ per year.
At the same time, PPC Group is investing in all forms of renewable and flexible energy production, as well as in modern energy storage technologies with batteries and pumped storage, enhancing the stability and flexibilityaof the energy system. In addition, it completed the first wind farm repowering project in Greece, replacing 105 old wind turbines on 10 islands with 24 new, higher-efficiency ones.
The progress made by PPC in environmental management is also recognized by international organizations. In 2025, PPC maintained a “B” rating in the CDP Climate Change Index, one of the most important international indicators for assessing environmental performance.
At the same time, PPC develops initiatives for the protection of the natural environment in the areas where it operates, implementing actions to protect biodiversity, restore nature and reduce pollution, in cooperation with specialized organizations and civil society bodies. Through targeted local-scale initiatives, such as coastal and marine ecosystem clean-ups, environmental education and awareness programmes for students and actions to enhance ecosystem resilience, it actively contributes to the protection of the natural environment.
Looking ahead, the PPC Group’s new strategic plan for the period 2026-2030 foresees total investments of more than €24 billion., one of the largest energy investment programmes in Europe. The Group intends to double its installed capacity to 24.3 GW by 2030, investing in renewables, energy storage and flexible generation in Greece and the wider Central and South-Eastern European region.
