In a hard-hitting post, Gregory Demetriades responds to the lawsuit filed against him by Vangelis Marinakis after their dispute last Sunday in the Euroleague final.

“I was informed that Vangelis Marinakis filed a lawsuit against me. His insolence knows no bounds. At a time when the whole of Greece has seen his unprovoked and cowardly attack, with his organised army of undercover henchmen, he wants to come out on top by continuing his vile practices. And all this, at a time when Olympiacos was playing one of the most important games in its history.

To be clear: all I did was defend myself in defense of my wife, myself, my honor and my reputation. Words that Mr. Marinakis does not know.

It is unthinkable that whatever disputes there may be, should be resolved in this way.

Unlike Mr Marinakis, I am not hiding in London. I remain here and make myself available to the authorities for any clarifications.

After all, I have never been involved in the Greek justice system. On the contrary, Mr. Marinakis has been in the hands of the Greek judiciary on many occasions, most recently his prosecution in the Liggeridis murder case. It is at the very least an oxymoron, then, for Mr Marinakis to pretend to be the guardian of legality and the herald of morality.

To wrap up. I’ve never learned to bow my head to anyone or anything. I will protect my family, my principles and my values to the end. Mr. Marinakis will not roll us all into his gutter.

Mr. Marinakis, you will not turn the country into Colombia.”
