A 24-year-old woman was swept away today, at 06:25 in the morning, by a city bus of the Thessaloniki bus service, when – according to information – she was attempting to cross Komninon Street in Oreokastro, at a point where there is no traffic light and no pedestrian crossing.
The city bus of the KTEL, was operating on the line Paleokastro – New Railway Station, with departure time from the Paleokastro terminal, at 06:15. Shortly before the bus arrived at the “Ekklisia” stop, the young woman tried to cross the road in front of the moving vehicle.
The bus driver did not have time to react, causing her to be swept away. Immediately, the bus was brought to a standstill, the traffic police, the ambulance and the Accident Care Service of Thessaloniki Bus Company were called by the driver. The woman, who suffered a fractured leg, was evacuated to Papageorgiou Hospital where she is being treated.
“Thessaloniki Bus and Coach Company, on the occasion of the incident, draws the attention of pedestrians and passengers of public transport, as hasty actions can cause accidents. Thessaloniki Bus and Coach Company expresses its warmest wishes for the speedy recovery of the 24-year-old girl,” said a relevant statement.
