A fight between about ten prisoners, who were being held inside disciplinary cells, led to the death of two prisoners and occurred at noon at the Nigrita Prison in Serres.
Instantly, prison officers, realizing the incident, intervened to prevent the fight and separate the people involved, while providing first aid, while an ambulance station was also called.
The incident resulted in the serious injury of two foreign detainees, one of whom died on the spot, while the second was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead. According to information, the two men are an Iraqi and an Algerian. A coroner was called to the scene, while the relevant public prosecutor was informed about the incident.
The incident is being investigated by the Sub-Directorate for Investigation and Detection of Crimes of Serres, while a disciplinary investigation has been ordered to investigate the circumstances of the incident.
