Two episodic chases in Thessaloniki led to as many arrests in the last 24 hours, following incidents of dangerous driving, disobedience and traffic violations.

In the first case, in the area of Nikopolis, police officers spotted a 46-year-old man driving a stolen I.X. with fake plates. On being flagged down, the driver picked up speed and attempted to flee, making dangerous maneuvers, successively violating STOP signs and moving into oncoming traffic.

Police say the vehicle came to a curb, where the vehicle was stopped, but he tried to flee on foot. A pursuit ensued and he was eventually stopped and arrested. A case was filed against him for theft, forgery, obstruction and dangerous driving.

In the second case, in western Thessaloniki, a 27-year-old driver was spotted driving an I.X. and attempting to evade a police check, speeding and repeatedly violating the KOK.

At the height of Agios Athanasios, he collided with a passing vehicle, was temporarily immobilized, but attempted to flee on foot to a rural area. After a foot pursuit he was located and arrested, despite strong resistance. It was discovered that his driver’s license had been revoked at an earlier time.

And both arrested persons are brought before the competent prosecuting authority with the charges against them.
