Three men were arrested by police officers of the Katerini Sub-Directorate for the Investigation and Detection of Crimes for telephone scams that took place a few days ago in areas of Thessaloniki and Katerini. As to their modus operandi, it was known that their accomplices called citizens, pretending to have various qualities such as accountant and policeman and with pretexts persuaded them to deliver money and jewelry to their alleged partners.
The perpetrators called a woman in Katerini the day before yesterday afternoon, first pretending to be an accountant and then pretending to be police officers who allegedly wanted to help her. Under the pretext of allegedly insuring a house, they asked her to hand over jewellery and gold pounds worth 27,000 euros to their alleged associates, according to a statement by the victim. After immediate mobilization of the police, the three men who were to receive the jewelry and gold pounds were found to be in a vehicle in the city of Katerini and were arrested.
As it emerged from the investigation, two more frauds were detected in areas of Thessaloniki. The three arrested men extracted the sum of 3,000 euros from a man and jewellery from a woman.
The investigation by police officers continues both to establish the identities of their accomplices and for their possible involvement in other similar criminal acts. The arrested persons, with the case file formed against them, were taken to the Prosecutor of Katerini.
