The delegation of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki won one gold and three bronze medals at the international South Eastern European Mathematical Olympiad for University Students (SEEMOUS), which took place in March in Paphos, Cyprus, with the participation of about 100 students from eight countries of South Eastern Europe.

The prizes were awarded in three categories: gold, silver and bronze medals, while the ranking was individual for each contestant. The distinctions of the Aristotle University delegation are as follows:

-Ioannis Galamatis, a 2nd year student of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (THMMY), won a gold medal, placing 7th in the overall ranking.

-Alexios Karaleikas, a 1st year student of THMMY, won a bronze medal (44th place).

-Asterios Varsamis-Kyratlidis, a 3rd year student of the Department of Mathematics, won a bronze medal (55th place).

-Georgios Kotsalis, a 1st year student of THMMY, won a bronze medal (57th place).

The event is held under the auspices of the Mathematical Society of South-Eastern Europe (MASSEE), with the Cyprus Mathematical Society as local organizer. The aim of the competition, according to the organisers, is to encourage talented students to further their development in the field of mathematics, to enhance communication and cooperation among them, and to foster a spirit of collaboration between mathematical societies and university departments.
