The dismantling of a criminal organization that was stealing transformers from the D.The police have succeeded in arresting two members of the group, aged 40 and 30, in the act.
A case was filed against the arrested persons, as well as against another accomplice, by the Chalkidona Crime Investigation and Detection Department for criminal organization, grand theft, violence against officials and judicial persons, insubordination, dangerous driving, bodily harm and crimes against the physical integrity of an official.
More specifically, today at dawn, the aforementioned were spotted in a rural area of the Municipality of Chalkidona, attempting to steal a transformer, but at the sight of the police officers they entered a rural-type vehicle and fled.
The vehicle was stopped in a settlement in Diavata and the occupants attempted to flee on foot, but two of them were arrested, despite strong resistance from the 30-year-old, which resulted in a police officer being slightly injured.
In the back of the vehicle, which had been reported stolen the previous days at the police station. Volvi, 9 copper coils were found and seized, which were removed from 3 transformers of the same number, as well as a number of tools used to remove transformers.
Further investigation revealed that from early February to April 18, 2026, 24 more cases of theft of transformers were committed in various areas of the Municipality of Chalkidona.
It is noted that, from the Department of Investigation and Detection of Crimes of Chalkidona, another case file was formed concerning the theft of 34 transformers during the period July 2025-January 2026 in the same area, which was submitted to the competent judicial authorities and as it was found that one of the perpetrators is the 40-year-old arrested.
The arrested persons will be brought before the relevant Public Prosecutor.
