A 69-year-old man was sentenced to a total of 8 months in prison, suspended for 3 years, after he assaulted two ambulance rescuers when they were called to offer him help while he was under the influence of alcohol. The 69-year-old man was referred to trial under the spontaneous procedure and the Single Plenary Court of Thessaloniki found him guilty of bodily harm and threatening.
The incident happened last week in Neapolis, where an ambulance crew rushed to after a call. According to the case file, the 69-year-old kicked one of the rescuers in the face, injuring him in the cheekbone area, while making a threat against them.
“When we arrived at the scene he was sitting in the car. He smiled at us and asked us ‘who called you’. We asked him if he needed help. He got out of the vehicle and lay down on the pavement,” one of the rescuers testified. He added that the accused threatened them saying: “I have seen your faces, you will not have a good time.”
For his part, the second rescuer said the 69-year-old was in contact with the surroundings. “He refused to be taken to hospital and lay down. My colleague approached him to help him and then he was kicked in the face,” he testified.
In his plea, the accused said he did not remember anything due to his intoxication, asking for the court’s leniency.
