A 38-year-old man accused of beating to death his 67-year-old ex-father-in-law to death in Evosmos has been remanded in custody after pleading before the 3rd regular interrogator of Thessaloniki.
The incident happened last Friday night, while the victim ended up at dawn the next day at the Ippokratio Hospital of Thessaloniki where he was hospitalized – as a result of his severe injuries. According to the findings of the forensic examination, the 67-year-old man suffered severe head injuries.
The 38-year-old (he was previously engaged to the 67-year-old’s daughter) was charged with criminal homicide with intent, as well as supply and possession of drugs for personal use.
According to reports, he apologised to the investigating judge and claimed that he and his former father-in-law had been together while consuming drugs and alcohol. He claimed that tension was caused between them when the 67-year-old insulted his personality and manhood.
A scuffle ensued, with the 38-year-old claiming lapses of memory about what happened after the verbal confrontation. He said – however – that he attempted to revive the victim and then called police and the ambulance. Through his counsel, he submitted a request for an expert examination to determine the degree of his drug dependence.
After the completion of his plea, the investigator and the prosecutor decided to keep him in custody.
