A thirty-seven-year-old man was arrested for secretly filming a woman in the toilets of an indoor sports centre in eastern Thessaloniki, while a subsequent police search of his home revealed numerous audiovisual materials featuring naked or semi-naked women, which were allegedly recorded without the victims’ knowledge in various public places, such as beaches and public transport.
More specifically, the tangle of the case began to unravel when the 37-year-old was arrested after a complaint that while he was in a closed gym in Kalamaria, he entered a women’s restroom, where he allegedly filmed a 45-year-old woman, who was in an adjacent stall, placing his mobile phone under the partition without her noticing.
Police said that when he was noticed, he attempted to destroy the mobile phone device by first throwing it into the toilet and then on the ground in an attempt to remove the evidence of his actions.
A search of his home followed, in the presence of a magistrate, during which computers and portable digital data storage devices were seized. Analysis of the files so far shows that they contained a large number of photographs and videos depicting women or parts of their bodies, in lingerie, swimwear and naked, in places such as beaches, toilets and public transport; material which appears to have been taken either with a mobile phone or a hidden camera, without the women’s knowledge.
All of the seized items, including the mobile phone, are to be sent to the relevant forensic agency for further laboratory examination,
A case file was formed against him by the Kalamaria Crime Investigation and Detection Department for violating the confidentiality of telephone communication and oral conversation on a repeated basis, with which he is expected to be brought before the competent prosecutor for criminal prosecution.
