The daughter of the 89-year-old, who spread panic at the EFKA Kerameikos and the Court of First Instance as he shot and wounded five people, spoke about her bad relationship with her father, describing him as a very short-tempered man.
“I blamed my father, who was not actually my father. All he did was bring me back to life. Right now I’m being blamed for not doing something, for not stopping something… who in essence, anyone who went against what he believed in was automatically his enemy and he was automatically his enemy and he moved him aside,” she initially said in a statement on ANT1’s “To Porino” today, Thursday 30 April.
“He came back and said to me ‘send your daughter to Greece or come to Greece, you stay with me, I’ll write it all down’ and I said ‘I personally want absolutely nothing and my child is not for sale. I am not coming to Greece. I’m not doing with you.”
She went on to say that she only saw her father every summer. “It wasn’t that to see your father with longing, to say ‘my dad’. I mean he always had a temper, he would yell at me or pull my hair, like he did to my daughter later on and on a bus too. When my father brought me here and my mother picked me up at some point, they were divorced and my mother remarried and my mother took me for a weekend, went and sued her for kidnapping me and took her to court and all that nonsense. He was demanding, meaning he was demanding things that he hadn’t earned. He demanded respect, he demanded love, and I kept telling him, you know what? You can’t demand those things. You earn those things.”
“Here in America he worked in a lot of screw factories. He was very smart.”
As his daughter pointed out, “no matter how short-tempered a man is, he doesn’t sit around saying crazy things. About demons, that they tie him up, that they beat him, that they don’t leave him at night, that they put him down and he can’t move and he can’t breathe. I buried my child and we waited for him to come…nothing, nowhere. I call him up and say “where are you, Christian?” and he says, “you know, I was stopped by devils so I wouldn’t come over there.” At one point he had told me, when my daughter was young and he had taken her to his village, that she was visited in her sleep at night by some myrrh-bearers to give her good luck. That is, some crazy things. And here’s what the outcome is now. We have five people in hospital.”
As to whether she thought her father would get to this point, she stressed that she had been told for years that he would do some extreme act, but she didn’t think he would eventually do it. “Every time there was a conversation, she would say ‘I’m going to get a shotgun and go kill them’. Now, when you hear that for 15 years you say ‘a barking dog doesn’t bite.'”
“In 2022 when I came to Greece I went to the village to see him. Can I tell you something? And now that I saw some video I felt sorry for him. I wish I could have predicted the future and with the “so-and-so”, I would have taken him in. And again, in the end, I didn’t have a phone or anything to say, what I would find him. So I personally, when my daughter went downstairs and said “mommy showed me a gun, I don’t know if it’s real” and I said “kiddo get up please go away too and next time if he wants to meet you for coffee, he can meet you outside.”
