The 66-year-old man from Preveza broke his silence, referring to the events surrounding Myrto’s death and the communication he had with her, speaking to “Live News” on Monday afternoon.
As he claimed – and according to what he has testified – he had communicated with the young woman and sent her money via IRIS, which, according to the evidence so far, was allegedly used to buy drugs shortly before she lost consciousness in a hotel room in Argostoli, Kefalonia.
He insists his purpose was to help a young girl who, he was told, had nowhere to stay that night. He also said his statement lasted about four hours and then he was called back by authorities.
“The first time it lasted about four hours and then they asked me for a supplementary statement. I handed in my cell phone as well. There for the first time, in a group conversation, O… called me and had the deceased on a conference call. He introduced her to me as his friend and mentioned the name Myrto, but I did not particularly hold back. We exchanged a few formal words, nothing more,” he said.
Describing the communication between them, he said they also exchanged some messages on Good Monday or Good Tuesday, without anything substantial.
On the fateful night, he noted: “At 11:38pm he called me on a video call. She was sitting on steps outside a store – I couldn’t tell if it was a pharmacy or a bank – and she was not in good shape. She told me she had left the house after a fight and that she was going to stay on benches. I urged her to go to someone she knew, but she insisted she had no one and that she had no money.”
As he said, he then decided to help her financially: “I asked her for an IBAN to send her money so she could get a room and be safe. She didn’t send me an IBAN, but she asked me to send it through IRIS and gave me a number.”
She asked me to send it through IRIS.
He also said he had suggested she go to Preveza or stay in a house he owns in Athens to calm down.
According to his description, later in the morning he received another video call. She was lying in bed and in better condition. She told me she had found a room and was fine. As we were talking, I heard a noise, like a door opening. She said something-I don’t remember exactly-and abruptly hung up the call. That was the last time I saw her.”
At another point in the interview, he said the 23-year-old had allegedly asked for 200 euros in the past.
