The 12-year-old boy who was seriously injured in an accident with an electric scooter in Aspropyrgos is still in an extremely critical condition and is being intubated in the Intensive Care Unit of the Aglaia Kyriakou Children’s Hospital.
The incident occurred shortly after 10:00 on Thursday morning, May 7, at the intersection of Athanasios Tsigou and Thrasyvoulou streets. According to witnesses, the juvenile attempted to cross the road vertically with his scooter, but allegedly failed to stop at a STOP sign, resulting in a collision with a passing private vehicle.
The impact was particularly violent, causing the child to be thrown to the roadway. The 12-year-old suffered serious injuries to his head, chest and leg.
Eyewitnesses, according to ERTNews, said the child was wearing a helmet, however it was not properly secured and was removed from his head immediately after the collision.
First the minor was evacuated by ambulance to Elefsina’s Thriasio Hospital, but due to the severity of his injuries he was then transferred to the Aglaia Kyriakou Children’s Hospital.
Doctors immediately proceeded to a lengthy head surgery in order to treat the serious head injuries he suffered. At the same time, fractures and severe injuries to the chest and lower limbs were found. After the surgery was completed, the child was admitted to the ICU, where he remains intubated.
The attending physicians describe the next 24 hours as particularly critical for the development of his health condition.
At the same time, traffic police are examining video footage from the accident scene, in which the moment of the collision between the electric scooter and the vehicle moving from the opposite direction has been recorded.
