In Sitia, Crete, authorities have found more than 23,000 illegal firecrackers during a coordinated anti-accident operation.
More specifically, a total of 23,240 illegal firecrackers were found during an operation in Sitia, as part of actions by the General Regional Police Directorate of Crete to prevent accidents from illegal possession, manufacture, trafficking and use of fireworks in the run-up to Easter.

The investigation was carried out at the property of a 43-year-old resident, who was arrested by officers from the Lassithi Police Operations Department and the Sitia Police Department.

A total of 23,240 firecrackers were seized as part of the operation, while the Sitia Police Department is continuing the preliminary investigation to identify possible accomplices or traffickers.
Prevention measures in view of Easter

The General Regional Police Directorate of Crete says that these actions are taken to protect the public and prevent accidents, especially during the Easter holidays, when the use of fireworks increases sharply.
