Calm and without giving the slightest indication of what was to follow, the 89-year-old man who spread panic in the centre of Athens, opening fire at the offices of the EFKA in Kerameikos and then at the Athens Court of Appeal, on Loukareos Street, appeared.
This image was carried by a taxi driver who transported him before the attack, describing a man “relaxed” and with no obvious signs of tension.
The elderly man, who was finally arrested in Patras after hours of searching, allegedly boarded the taxi from the Ano Patisia area, with the shotgun hidden under his jacket.
Talking to ANT1 and the show Kalimera Ellada, the driver said the 89-year-old “was in a relaxed state” and did not arouse any suspicion. He said that although he was wearing heavy clothing despite the heat, this did not strike him as odd, as – as he noted – “this is how he usually dressed.”
The driver added that the elderly man had mentioned that he was going to visit a friend and then go to Patras, without making any indication of his intentions.
The testimony reinforces the picture of a perpetrator who acted without giving away his movements earlier, which makes the case even more disturbing.
