The new Tsipras party, commented the press spokesperson of New Democracy, Alexandra Sdoukou, speaking to ERT News and Alpha 9.89, assessing that it talks to a very specific part of Greek society and is essentially entrenched exclusively around slogans of the past.

Mrs. Sduku stressed that “we don’t care who is second or third, we care about doing our job. After all, impressions are short-lived, the stage presence and the slogans are good, but it is the substance that counts in the end and the confrontation should be based on political proposals. That is where Mr Tsipras set a bar and passed underneath. I did not hear something fresh and new, but an anachronistic concept. What one can take away from yesterday’s Mr Tsipras are basically four things. The first is that he attempted to establish the left as his space, of course this shows that he only appeals to a very specific audience. The second was that he attempted to add historical depth to his project, albeit with an anachronistic and divisive slant.

The third was the many slogans, empty of content, just repeated. Fourth, that he attempted to describe Greece as a country in ruins, from which everyone is looking for a way out. There may be problems, but nobody believes such a portrayal of Greece as he did.”

When asked about the seven pledges he made with his new party, Mr. Tsipras, the spokeswoman said that “they reminded me of something and I went back to the 2015 programme statements. The titles were exactly what he said in his 2015 manifestos. For example, he talked about ‘Dignity of the people’ in 2015, he talked about ‘Life with Dignity’ in 2026, he talked about ‘Change of production model’ in 2015, he talked about ‘Economy of Fair Development and Dignity with change of production model’ in 2026. I wonder if he didn’t rule in the interim.”

In response to a question about the lawsuit filed by the President of PASOK against Health Minister Adonis Georgiades over the issue of Mr. Androulakis’s property lease to the State, Ms. Sdoukou said that “the contract is there, it exists and it has income for Mr. Androulakis and his family. As Mr Georgiades had said, welcome and it will all be proven. However, if they all went along with Mr. Androulakis’ logic, then he, the architect of the false scandal, would have to explain phrases like mafia, gang and many others. But he is lucky, because in New Democracy, we are not Androulakis.”
