The basic difference between the government and the opposition was highlighted by the press spokeswoman of the New Democracy, Alexandra Sdoukou, speaking to Action 24, stressing that on the one hand we have a government that constantly focuses on moving forward on issues that concern the daily life of citizens and on the other hand we have an opposition that insists on a “communication approach without content”.
“The “new” Tsipras is all about communication”
Specifically, asked about Tsipras’ party, she noted that “if his goal was to create noise around the party name, to a significant extent he succeeded,” adding that Mr. Tsipras, both with the famous rebranding and with the book “Ithaca,” it seems that he now likes to stand very much on communication, on the wrapping and not on the content.”
Ms. Tsipras has been judged for his positions in the past and what we saw was nothing but an insistence on personal vindication that is in complete contradiction with society.”
“Androulakis has responded to political criticism with lawsuits”
Regarding PASOK and its way of politics, Ms. Sdoukou noted that “if out of ten minutes on a TV panel, nine minutes are devoted to toxic references and one minute to issues that concern citizens” then it explains why PASOK is so low in its rating as an opposition.
As a prime example, he cited the lawsuit filed by Androulakis against Mr. Georgiades, commenting that “the President of PASOK has accused everyone and everything” and “it is unheard of for the leader of the opposition to respond to political criticism with lawsuits. If New Democracy behaved like this, it would have to sue him all the time, but we are not all the same. In any case, as Mr Georgiades said, it is welcome and everything will be proven in court.”
“Two philosophies will be compared”
Finally, Ms Sdoukou stressed that the big difference between New Democracy and the other parties lies in its programmatic discourse. She stressed that “on the one hand we saw generalities and outdated speech and on the other hand we saw Kyriakos Mitsotakis yesterday talking about health issues, services to citizens and the upgrading of the system as a whole. About investments in the sector, about preventive medicine and healthy ageing, about what the future brings with more specialised treatments”, concluding that “we want to convince citizens with our plan, we want a positive vote for our programme and not just to win because the opposition cannot produce policy”.
