Serious consternation has been caused in Rhodes by a new crime that occurred shortly after 8pm when a 60-year-old man was found dead after being attacked with a knife in the village of Kalithies. Police forces and an ambulance crew immediately rushed to the scene and pronounced him dead.
Initial evidence from the police investigation indicates that the victim and the perpetrator had a close acquaintance and were living together. However, the relationship between them was reportedly strained, with frequent friction, and both were experiencing psychological difficulties that were aggravating their cohabitation.
The circumstances under which the incident occurred are being investigated, with authorities looking at all possibilities. According to local media reports, it is possible that the two men had consumed alcohol prior to the altercation, which may have contributed to the intensity of the dispute.
The verbal confrontation appears to have quickly escalated, resulting in one of the men pulling a knife and inflicting a fatal wound on the 60-year-old man. The case has been taken over by the Rhodes Security Sub-Division, which is continuing the preliminary investigation by collecting statements and evidence to solve the case.
