A Russian airstrike damaged the Ukrainian city of Izmail in the early hours of the morning, while Russian authorities said four Ukrainian drones heading for the capital Moscow were shot down.

Izmail, home to Ukraine’s largest strategic port on the Danube, is often targeted by Russian attacks.

Local authorities said port infrastructure was damaged, but there were no casualties and “almost all” of the weapons used by the Russian side were “destroyed” before hitting their targets.

In the Kursk region, which borders Ukraine, a woman was killed and two other people were wounded in a Ukrainian raid yesterday, local authorities said via Telegram late last night.

The Russian regions of Rastov (south) and Yaroslavl (northeast of the capital) were also targeted by Ukrainian raids, authorities said.

Meanwhile in Yaroslavl, where refineries and related infrastructure are located, regional governor Mikhail Yefrayev warned via Telegram drivers heading to Moscow to be careful because of the threat of attacks by Ukrainian drones.

The Ukrainian side has been seeking in recent months to deprive Russia of revenue thanks to hydrocarbon exports. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zhelensky asserted last night via X that in recent months, the capacity of Russian refineries has fallen by 10 per cent and oil fields have been shut down.

“(Russian President Vladimir) Putin had of course built a war fund–but it is certainly not enough to continue the war indefinitely,” Ukrainian President Zelensky noted.
