In a sharp post on social media, the Minister of Migration and Asylum, Thanos Plevris, unleashed fire at the Mayor of Athens, Charis Doukas. This was prompted by a resolution of the municipality on asylum issues, which the Minister considered interference in issues that do not fall within the competence of local government.

Specifically, he accused Charis Doukas of “turning the municipality into a branch of ANTARSYA”, strongly criticizing the decision to adopt a resolution related to asylum procedures or revocation.

In his post, Mr. Plevris stresses that the mayor is interfering in an issue that does not fall within the municipality’s competence, noting that the Asylum Committee is the competent body to make decisions on the matter.

At the same time, the Minister took a swipe at the priorities set by the municipal authority, arguing that the capital’s outstanding issues remain pending, while the Mayor chooses to deal with issues alien to the daily life of the city.

Pleyris said: “Mr. Harris Dukas is turning the municipality into a branch of ANTARSYA. With his resolution he is interfering without authority in the Asylum Committee on how asylum will be granted or revoked. Athens’ problems can wait. In his spare time the mayor will deal with them too.”
