Voula Patoulidou spoke openly about interventions she has had done to her face, explaining that she did not decide to do so for reasons of mood, but because of a deep insecurity she has carried from a young age.
As she mentioned, when she was a child she had passed an infection that left her with several scars on her face, which made her feel inferior and strongly affected her self-image. She described that she found it difficult to feel comfortable with her appearance and often tried to cover up these marks.
At a later stage in her life, she accepted a doctor’s urging to go through rehabilitation, as there was the potential to correct the issue. At the same time, she said that even her experience of motherhood played a role in her decision when her son, at a young age, asked her about the marks on her face. It was then that she decided to go ahead with the procedure immediately.
In conclusion, she stressed that when something in a person’s appearance bothers them and can be improved without altering their identity, there is no reason not to choose it.
