During the Piraeus-Chios-Lesvos route, an incident occurred that caused inconvenience to passengers when the fire extinguishing system inside a passenger ship was activated.
According to reports, a group of passengers lit a cigarette inside the ship, which caused an intense release of smoke. The safety system was automatically activated, causing water to splash on the deck and in the interiors.
The system’s reaction caused panic, as several passengers initially thought a fire had broken out. Many rushed to the exits, creating crowds and tension for a few minutes until it was clear what had happened.
The water spill also caused minor property damage, mainly to passengers’ personal belongings and parts of the ship’s interior.
According to the report, no arrests were made for the incident, while the crew gradually restored normalcy to the ship and the voyage continued as normal.
