A police operation has been underway in Neos Kosmos since yesterday afternoon (Thursday) as a 51-year-old man has been holed up in his home with a shotgun.

The man locked himself in his home after a domestic violence incident against his mother, whom he actually held hostage for hours.

He was reported by his mother for domestic violence

.
According to reports, it all started shortly after 6pm when the 81-year-old woman called 911 complaining that her son had beaten her and was forcibly holding her inside the house at gunpoint. The Greek police immediately raised the alarm, with strong forces rushing to the scene and cordoning off the area.

Forces of the OPKE team are operating at the scene

After sustained negotiations, the 51-year-old released his mother late last night, but he is still holed up, refusing to surrender.

Police officers from the IPC team and a special police negotiator are operating at the scene, trying to persuade the man to hand over the gun and leave the house safely. The situation is described as extremely dangerous, and according to reports the man is reportedly facing serious psychological problems.

As reported by ERT, police authorities are considering intervening with a prosecutor’s order if there is no response to the negotiations to subdue the suspect and arrest him.
