Two more incidents of detection and rescue of foreigners were recorded in the last 24 hours in the sea area south of Crete and Peloponnese, under the coordination of the Joint Search and Rescue Coordination Centre (CSRC).

According to the Hellenic Coast Guard, in the first incident, a dinghy with about 42 foreigners was spotted 56 nautical miles south-southeast of Ierapetra by an airborne means of the FRONTEX force. The occupants were safely picked up by a commercial vessel flying the flag of Antigua and Barbuda and transported to the port of Ierapetra.

At the same time, another search and rescue operation was completed yesterday in the sea area 70 nautical miles southwest of Cape Taenaro.

According to the Coast Guard, a ship of the FRONTEX force spotted a dinghy with 23 foreigners on board and proceeded to rescue them under the coordination of the ESFED. The rescued persons were safely transported to the port of Kalamata.
