The process of replacing old police ID cards has already entered the home stretch as the deadline of August 3, 2026 approaches. Under the European regulation, all cards that do not have a machine readable zone (MRZ) will then cease to be valid permanently.

To better serve citizens, the Ministry of Digital Governance has activated a new, more functional appointment scheduling system via the id.gov.gr platform, significantly increasing the number of available dates.

Appointment availability

After the initial increased demand, the situation has now normalized. There are currently several appointments available in areas of Attica, such as Pallini, Keratea, Kifissia, Lykovrisi and Oropos, as well as on islands such as Poros and Spetses.

How to make an appointment

You can log in to the platform with your personal Taxisnet codes. Once you have logged in:

  • Select the relevant police station based on your residence
  • The system automatically populates your information from the state registries
  • Check and, if necessary, update your contact details
  • Select date and time from the available options
  • Complete the request and receive confirmation via email

It is possible to change or cancel up to one hour before the appointment and reminders are sent via email. The issue cost is €10 via e-paravolo, and may be increased in cases of loss or damage.

What happens in case of loss or theft

In such cases, the online procedure is not followed. Direct contact with the appropriate Police Department is required to report the incident and plan immediately.

Why you need to issue a new ID card

The new ID cards are in card form and incorporate modern security features such as an electronic chip with personal data and biometric data. This offers greater security, makes travel easier and simplifies transactions with public services.
