Authorities are seeking answers for the serious domestic violence incident that shocked Heraklion.

The brutal domestic violence incident in Heraklion has landed a 28-year-old woman in hospital with severe head injuries. She is still unable to give a statement with authorities waiting for her to recover to describe in detail what happened and she was found seriously injured outside the car driven by her husband and carrying three of their minor children.

The 28-year-old woman, who is being treated at the Pagni hospital, has been chanting some words but can hardly open her eyes. Reports say she reportedly said “I guess a car hit me”, but is unable to say anything else.

The fact that what happened unfolded in front of the children is causing intense concern and shock. The 30-year-old is said to have initially claimed that while driving the vehicle with the family inside, the 28-year-old was knocked out of the car and injured on the roadway.

Following a police investigation, facts emerged which appear to have aggravated his position and according to newer testimony, the 30-year-old drove his wife into the car in front of his three children.

It is possible that a child psychologist may be needed to examine one of the children who was in the car and reportedly described a scene.

The 30-year-old husband of the 28-year-old woman faces a felony charge of attempted murder against the young mother.

At the same time, according to the same sources, the 30-year-old man was allegedly under the influence of alcohol, as revealed by the breathalyzer test he underwent at the Malevizi Police Station. At the same time, a blood sample has been taken in order to conduct toxicological tests.

The authorities are seriously considering the possibility of a malicious act, which is reflected in the felony charge brought against him. DNA and blood samples have been collected from the vehicle as part of the investigation, while the van and its doors in particular are expected to be examined by an expert.

The Chronicle

According to the evidence so far, the couple left the family home late Saturday afternoon (08.05.2026) with their three youngest children, including an infant of just three months old. The eldest child remained at home with his grandmother. They boarded the cage bound for Heraklion.

About 20 minutes later, the 30-year-old contacted the 28-year-old’s mother by phone, informing her that her daughter had been injured. According to what she allegedly claimed, the door of the vehicle opened because it was damaged, causing the woman to fall into the road.

The 28-year-old woman’s mother and brother rushed to the scene and found the woman in a ditch, her clothes covered in dirt and grass. In addition to serious head injuries, she had abrasions on her back and arms.

The vehicle driven by the 30-year-old was visibly damaged and the bumper, which – according to reports – he had placed inside the car, was missing. Officers found traces of blood on both the passenger door and the sliding side door, as well as on the bumper.

At the same time, a statement from a close relative of the 28-year-old woman reportedly refers to incidents of tension and domestic friction between the couple, with the most recent episode dated to January 2026.
