Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ post on Marinella’s death

“The voice of the Great Lady of Greek song has been silenced. And from now on, the memory of the incomparable Marinella will pass on to the lips of the Greek women and Greeks, who will always hiss her melodies. After all, many generations have grown up with them in our country. Among them, mine too, as her great hits were among my first musical sounds. In a home, in fact, where my parents were among her most loyal and enduring fans.

A fan of hers, however, I became, later on, a fan myself. Watching her evolution on the pentagram, but also her modest presence in social life. A unique personality in her field who nevertheless wanted to remain simple and human. And a bold woman who passionately pursued her dream, teaching not only art but also ethics on stage. Something I found when I got to know her in person, including watching all her recent performances.

Marinella leaves Greece more silent but also richer. With a legacy of notes and the unique crystal of her voice with which she travelled from Thessaloniki to the ends of the world. As well as the model of her creative, yet at the same time so quiet and discreet life and behaviour. My thoughts, like all of us, are now with her people. Along with a final round of applause, “words are unnecessary”, as she would have sung.”
