Kyriakos Mitsotakis made it clear that he rejects early elections and that he will not proceed with a reshuffle.
The prime minister said in an interview with iefimerida that “I categorically reject any talk of early elections due to a demographic recovery. My aim is to exhaust the election cycle.”
“Political stability is a comparative advantage in the country, I will not take the country to early elections, risking this argument that shows that this government can make decisions quickly and act for the benefit of citizens,” he said.
“I am also cutting out the reshuffle – at a time like this we have a lot of work to do and a government that is working satisfactorily,” he added.
Here are the main points of the prime minister’s interview:
About Iran: “If the conflict is prolonged with consequences for oil and gas flow, there will be consequences for both the European and Greek economies – we must be ready for all eventualities.”
On additional measures: “We never roll out all our interventions right off the bat – We have other support measures in mind – We have supported society in both Covid and energy crisis – but we will have to see how the phenomenon evolves.”
About Cyprus: “The immediate priority was the security of the country and the protection of Cyprus – We sent a clear message that Cyprus should not feel alone and we mobilised other European countries – and we alone would support it
Greeks invested their savings in the deterrent capability of the country – We feel satisfaction and pride when our Armed Forces at a critical juncture can rise to the occasion.
Since the order was given, the Defence Minister made the recommendation, I accepted it, it was discussed in rotation at the KYSEA and within five hours the ships sailed and the planes were in Cyprus the same day.
What would have happened if we had a coalition government and I had to consult with other political leaders on whether or not to send frigates to Cyprus?”
Mitsotakis: New Democracy has more than double the second party’s share in all polls. The goal of self-reliance is difficult, but it is achievable. It is certainly a more achievable goal than the one set by Androulakis, that PASOK should be the first party. pic.twitter.com/t4FrY9xlD4
