METLEN and Naval Group signed, on 19 March 2026, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the premises of M Technologies, the defence arm of METLEN, in the presence of the French Ambassador to Greece, Laurence Auer. The agreement aims to explore future cooperation in the field of submarines and surface ships.

The MoU is another step to strengthen an already established cooperation between the two leading companies, positioning METLEN as a strategic partner in the Naval Group’s supply chain. Already, Naval Group is leveraging METLEN’s expertise in the manufacture of key parts for FDI frigates for the Greek and French armament program. At the same time, Naval Group recognizes METLEN’s expertise as a critical advantage, which can lead to broader industrial cooperation across multiple naval platforms, both in the surface ship and submarine sectors, for international markets.

The agreement highlights the joint ambition of both companies to support complex naval systems and contribute to a more resilient and competitive European defence ecosystem. At the same time, it reflects the steadily strengthening French-Greek industrial cooperation, further strengthening bilateral ties.

Enhancing cooperation with Greek industry

This partnership was launched in 2022 under the Navy’s FDI program, with Naval Group implementing a robust Greek Industrial Participation (HIP) program, in which more than 70 Greek companies are already participating. In addition to the FDI program, this industrial project has already yielded significant and lasting economic benefits for Greek industry, allowing Greek companies to join Naval Group’s supply chain for existing and future French and export programs. In this context, the Hellenic Defence Industrial and Technological Base (DITB) is strengthening its position in the international naval defence market.

METLEN continues to invest in the future of the defence industry, including through the development of a six-factory defence industrial hub in Volos (M Technologies Defence Hub), further strengthening its role in supporting major European projects. Through strategic investments, M Technologies contributes to strengthening strategic autonomy in the defence sector for Greece and Europe, promoting re-industrialisation and critical technologies.
