The Blue Star 2 passenger-car ferry departed from the port of Lavrio after the completion of the scheduled inspections, following a report of an explosive device being planted.

The ship, which had departed from Piraeus on its scheduled route to Syros, Patmos, Leros, Kalymnos, Kos, and Rhodes, made an emergency stop in Lavrio so that thorough inspections could be conducted by bomb disposal experts from the Hellenic Coast Guard – Greek Coast Guard, with the assistance of a specially trained explosive detection dog.

After the inspections were completed and it was determined that there was no threat, the ship received clearance from the competent authorities and continued its scheduled route to the Aegean islands as normal.

The ship is carrying 952 passengers and 98 crew members, while authorities are investigating the source of the report that prompted the mobilization of security services.
