An off-duty police officer arrested a 34-year-old man red-handed for attempted burglary at a warehouse in Kolonos.

According to the Greek police, the incident occurred in the midnight hours of April 26, when the 34-year-old, along with his accomplice who played the role of a “lookout”, broke through the main entrance of an apartment building and entered the basement area where the tenants’ storage rooms are located.

The offender was spotted by an off-duty police officer, who serves on the SWAT team and is a resident of the apartment building, who attempted to stop him. The 34-year-old then moved in a threatening manner towards him, holding a screwdriver.

A struggle ensued, during which the officer, despite being injured, managed to subdue and disarm the offender. Afterwards, officers of the Amnesty Police who rushed to the scene brought him to the Colonus Crime Investigation and Detection Department, which took preliminary action.

A case was filed against the 34-year-old for grand theft by profession, while his accomplice is also wanted. Burglary tools, including screwdrivers, keys, pliers and a torch, were found in his possession.

The arrested man was taken to the relevant prosecutor.
