A 15-year-old boy from Malona, Rhodes, was injured yesterday outside the village’s church when he attempted to light a firework in the crowd during a service.

The firework, exploded in his hands, resulting in a burn on his left village finger. Speaking to APE – MPE, the president of the community, Mr. Nektarios Moustakellis, said the minor was taken to the Archangelos Health Centre, where he was given first aid by doctors.

He noted that the situation with fireworks and firecrackers continues unchecked this year by both young and old and for this reason, he contacted the local police station, requesting the strengthening of control measures. In the same village of Rhodes in previous years, other serious injuries have been recorded during Easter, also from fireworks.
