A particularly important informative action with a strong social footprint took place in the framework of the 16th New Democracy Conference, on the initiative of the Human Rights Secretariat of the New Democracy and by decision of the Organizing Committee of the Conference, in cooperation with the Panhellenic Association of Heart – Lung Transplant Patients “Continuezo”.

During the conference proceedings, from May 15 to 17, a coordinated briefing of delegates and observers on the importance of organ donation, transplantation and giving life to others was held. This activity demonstrated in a meaningful way that, beyond the political and organisational success of a major conference, the social footprint it can leave on society is of particular value.
The Secretary of Human Rights of the New Democracy, Maria Natsiou, the Secretariat’s executives, as well as the President of the “Continuezo” Association Dimitrios Manginas, together with the representatives and members of the Association, informed the participants about the need to strengthen the culture of organ donation and the importance of informing and raising awareness of citizens about an issue that saves human lives.

At the same time, the important initiatives and institutional interventions undertaken by the government of Kyriakos Mitsotakis in the field of transplants and organ donation were highlighted, such as the strengthening and upgrading of the National Transplantation Organization, the improvement of the institutional framework for transplants, the development of new units and coordination structures in hospitals, as well as the overall effort to increase organ donations and the information of citizens.

This initiative was an essential example of cooperation between institutions, bodies and citizens around a common goal: the creation of a more aware, humane and solidarity-based society, where the offer of life to one’s fellow man is the highest act of responsibility and hope.
