The case of the death of 19-year-old Myrto in Kefalonia continues to raise questions, with authorities deepening their investigation and new evidence coming to light about possible people involved and the real causes of the tragedy.

Two days after the decision to remand in custody the three young men accused of abandoning Myrto in a central square in Argostoli, the police investigation is in full swing, aiming to clarify all aspects of a case that has shocked the nation.

The lawyer for the 19-year-old girl’s family argues that there are serious indications that other people were involved in her death.

Among them, according to reports, is a 66-year-old man, who allegedly had contact with Myrto on the night of the tragedy and sent her the sum of 220 euros.

As it turns out, the man in question was exchanging messages with the 19-year-old, but it has not yet been clarified how he met her or why he sent her money.

At the same time, the family’s legal representative, Mr. Drakulogonas, stressed in a statement that the evidence gathered suggests the possible involvement of other people, in addition to the three accused.

Father speaks of organised exploitation of his daughter

At the same time, the father of the unfortunate girl speaks of organised exploitation of his daughter, claiming there was a “ring” that attempted to exploit her, while he says he will fight for justice.

The three defendants, who after their lengthy pleas have been remanded in custody and are due to be transferred to Korydallos, say they did not abandon Myrto.

Video from a hotel security camera records their last movements: the 22-year-old appears first, holding the girl’s jacket, followed by the 26-year-old, a weightlifter, who carries her out of the hotel, while the 23-year-old is behind them. Then they take her to a central point of Argostoli and call the ambulance.

“We tried to help her, however she would not recover. Then I decided to call the ambulance and the other two told me they were afraid of getting in trouble so they would take her down and say they found her on the street. At some point the 26-year-old came back and told me that an ambulance had picked her up and everything was fine. I was left cleaning the room,” the 23-year-old said.

All three insist they did not abandon the young woman, claiming they stayed by her side until the ambulance picked her up.

Friends and relatives of Myrto describe a girl with no health problems or addictions. “My friend had no health problems and never used drugs or alcohol,” said a friend.

What happened to the doctors at the hospital

Meanwhile, a motive of personal retaliation appears to be behind the allegations made about a doctor shortage at the Kefalonia hospital, according to the investigation so far.

Specifically, a woman who posed as a nurse on a TV show claimed that the 19-year-old girl ended up dying because there was no doctor available to treat her immediately.

Health Minister Adonis Georgiades, informed of the case, announced his intention to file a lawsuit for defamation, noting that if it turns out to be a false complaint in a personal dispute between doctors, then the woman responsible will not be allowed to work in the NHS.

The reaction from hospital workers was immediate, as they – as reported – recognised from the voice that it was not a nurse but a doctor at the institution.

It is believed that a personal confrontation between two doctors may be behind the complaint, while a third person appears to be involved in the case.
