Today’s public holiday of the Holy Spirit (01/06) will not affect the operation of supermarkets or commercial stores, which will be open and operating as normal.
All major supermarket chains, such as Sklavenitis, AB Vassilopoulos, Masoutis, Kritikos, MyMarket and Galaxy, will observe their usual opening hours, i.e. from 08:00 to 21:00.
Shops will also operate as usual, as Monday of the Holy Spirit is not a compulsory holiday for the private sector according to the legislation.
On the contrary, banks and public services will not operate, as this day is a statutory holiday for the public sector.
People’s markets will be held as normal, as stated in a statement issued by the Pan-Atlantic Federation of Farmers’ Market Vendors’ Associations.
What applies to workers
.
The religious holiday, although one of the biggest, is not a compulsory holiday for all private sector workers, so many workers will be absent from work under collective agreements, internal regulations or established business practice. As a result, public services, schools and care centres will be closed.
