The 30-year-old husband of the 28-year-old mother of many children, who is being treated at the Pagnani hospital after being injured by a fall from the family car in the Pantanassa area last Saturday afternoon, was remanded in custody after his plea.
From the defence side, the defendant’s lawyer Ioannis Verras said the ruling is respected, insisting, however, that his client denies he had any involvement. “The truth is one and only one, that the defendant did not embellish any action … that led to her injury,” he said, adding that the 30-year-old is waiting for his wife’s testimony, which he claims “will fully restore the truth.”
On the contrary, the lawyer for the 28-year-old’s family, Nikos Steiakakis, assessed that the evidence in the case leads to different conclusions, stressing that “it is easy to understand that it cannot be an accident” and that “the findings point towards the existence of a criminal act”. He noted that the 28-year-old woman’s condition is stable, but she is not yet able to testify, which is expected in the coming days and is considered crucial to the development of the case.
In fact, Mr. Steiakakis added that as far as the possibility of examining the minor child – the older one who was in the vehicle at the time of the incident – is concerned, this is a matter for the investigating judge to consider and, in any case, if such an order is issued, his examination will be carried out as provided for by the code and in the presence of a specialist.
