The procedure for lifting garnishments for debts owed to the tax administration is changing.

The Independent Public Revenue Authority is digitising the procedure for lifting seizures in the hands of third parties from Wednesday, 1 April 2026, reducing bureaucracy and further enhancing the protection of debtors’ rights.

By decision of the Governor, George Pitsilis (A.1077/2026), a new digital framework is created for the immediate lifting of seizures in the hands of credit institutions and other liable persons (art.62 of Law 4170/2013), for the benefit of taxpayers.

Specifically, with the new digital procedure:

– The lifting of third-party attachments is now communicated digitally. Once the taxpayer pays his debt and sends a request to the department that issued the third-party attachment, the relevant department issues the lift and sends it digitally to credit institutions and other liable persons.

– The completion of the removal is immediate, without requiring any further action by the taxpayer.

– The notification of seizures in the hands of third parties to credit institutions and other obligated persons, as well as the lifting of seizures, is carried out through a secure interface (AADE node) with the transit hubs “TIRESIA S.A.Ε.” and “DIAS S.A.”.

– AADE’s customs services are fully integrated into the new digital flow, unifying the collection procedures for all types of public revenue.
