The United States Immigration and Asylum Services is moving forward with a process to inform and train United States agencies on innovative practices to intensify the return of illegal immigrants. This initiative is being implemented following a decision by the Minister of Immigration and Asylum, Thanos Plevris.

According to an announcement by the Ministry of Immigration and Asylum, contacts between the competent services of Greece and the United States officially began today, March 27, with the holding of the first informative seminar. This action is part of a broader framework of cooperation to manage issues related to illegal immigration.

During the seminar, the Customs Border Protection Home digital application used by the US authorities in the context of return procedures was presented. As noted, this application helps to organise dignified and voluntary returns, enhancing the efficiency of the relevant procedures.

The Ministry of Immigration and Asylum underlines that the intention of both the Ministry and the Greek government is to further strengthen and expand cooperation with the US. This cooperation is expected to be expanded “in other critical areas of illegal migration management, with a particular focus on border protection and enhancing the sense of security of citizens.”
