An important international distinction has been won by Greece in the Finnish tourism market, winning for the second consecutive year the first prize in the category “World’s Best Travel Destination 2026” at the Grand Travel Award Finland 2026, held in Helsinki on 28 May 2026.
According to a statement, Greece was named the world’s top travel destination, beating out particularly strong competitors such as Italy, Spain, Portugal and Norway, confirming its long-standing momentum and high visibility in the Finnish market.
The Grand Travel Awards are one of the most recognised and well-established travel industry award institutions in the Nordic countries. In Finland, the winners are selected through independent research conducted by the Nordic Bench research company, combining consumer and traveller ratings, opinions of tourism professionals, and the assessments of a special committee of experts.
During the ceremony, a total of ten awards were presented to destinations and businesses that stood out for their quality of service, high customer satisfaction and leadership in the tourism industry. The event brought together around 300 travel industry representatives, business executives, partners and media representatives.
Greece’s distinction was based, among other things, on the renowned Greek hospitality, the rich gastronomic tradition, the authentic travel experiences offered by Greek destinations, as well as the country’s consistently high popularity among Finnish travellers.
Greece continues to inspire and attract visitors from all over the world, offering a unique combination of culture, history, natural beauty and modern travel experiences that meet the demands of the modern traveller.
The award was received on behalf of Greece by the Head of the EOT Scandinavia Service, Eftychia Aivalioti and the Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of Greece in Finland, Dimitris Karakonstantis.
