Firefighters were put on the spot Monday afternoon after a forest fire broke out in the area of Lake Vouliagmeni, near Loutraki.

The fire broke out in a dense pine forest, causing the immediate mobilization of strong firefighting forces. The area is characterized as particularly difficult to deal with such incidents, due to the rich vegetation and the presence of residential points at a relatively short distance.

According to initial estimates, the flames are spreading in a forest area with pine trees, while the course of the front has put the competent authorities on heightened alert, as it is close to the wider area of Lake Vouliagmeni.

The work of firefighters is complicated by both the morphology of the terrain and the extensive pine forest that reaches the coastal area. At the same time, there are scattered houses and small settlements in the wider area, which requires increased attention.

56 firefighters with 17 vehicles are working to extinguish the fire, while two hiking teams have been thrown into the battle. At the same time, reinforcements are also being provided from the air, as five aircraft and a helicopter have been directed to the spot to carry out water drops and help contain the fire.

Soon afterwards, 112 was also activated, with a warning message to the residents of Perachora, Corinthia. Citizens were asked to be on alert and to follow the instructions of the competent authorities.

The message said. Stay alert and follow the instructions of the authorities.”

The Piraeus Fire Department of the Piraeus Region, Piraeus County, Greece.

The competent authorities are constantly monitoring the evolution of the situation, as the fire occurred in an area of particular environmental value and increased residential activity during the summer period.

The fire is being monitored by the competent authorities.

No damage to residential properties or danger to human life has been reported so far. However, firefighting forces remain in full deployment, with the aim of halting the spread of the front and bringing the fire under control.
