Fay Theochari spoke to the camera of the show Smile and Again! and talked about the difficult experiences she had because of bullying for her weight. She described incidents from her adolescence, but also her decision to undergo surgery in order to change her daily life.
“In my teenage years I experienced intense bullying because of my weight. I had gastric sleeve surgery – I say it openly, I don’t hide it. It helped me a lot to lose weight, but it’s not magic; you don’t wake up the next day and it’s gone,” she said.
Then she added: “When you’re 110 or 115 pounds, it’s not easy, especially for a girl. I’ve gotten strange looks on the street, felt uncomfortable on the beach in a bathing suit and sometimes I’ve been embarrassed to go into the sea. I’ve even had people say to me in a store: “I’m sorry, but I can’t let you try it on because you might tear it.”
