A sharp response to those within and around SYRIZA who criticize him for his political choices and especially for his presence at the PASOK congress was given by independent MEP Nicolas Farantouris, in the wake of Pavlos Polakis’ strong statement. In a post, he attacked those who, he claims, reproduce false allegations against him, calling them “gross lies” that, in his estimation, reveal “insecurity”.
Nicolas Faradouris said that those who deleted him “two months ago”, as he stresses, are still concerned with his subsequent political career, accompanying, he says, this agony with “vulgar as well as funny lies”. In the same text, he tried to refute references by SYRIZA MP Pavlos Polakis to his political past, stressing that he had never been a member of the GDR and that ideologically he had always belonged to the democratic party.
He was also particularly sharp on his path to the European Parliament, rejecting the claim that he wanted to be placed on a European candidate list through personal interventions. On the contrary, as he notes, his participation on the ballot paper came about through an internal electoral process, in which, according to him, he was elected first in the Attica region. At the same time, he accused some of his opponents of resorting to such attacks for “a few licks and some publicity.”
The independent MEP’s post came in the wake of renewed tension with Pavlos Polakis, who, after Nicolas Farantouris attended the PASOK congress, called him a “corker” and referred to his political movements in a derogatory way. Responding to this mood, the independent MEP spoke of a “traditional Stalinist practice” of slandering former comrades, arguing that such attitudes cannot address the political deadlocks of those who adopt them.
Nicolas Faradouris’ post
Traditional Stalinist practice of slandering former comrades
Crude lies always show insecurity. Those who deleted me two months ago (with suspicions and without reason) have since been concerned from morning till night with “where Faradouris will go”, accompanying their anguish with vulgar as well as funny lies. To restore the truth:,
1. I have never been a member of the GOP. Full stop.
1.1.1.1 I was never a member of the party.
2. I have always ideologically belonged to the democratic party and joined a single party in my life 3 years ago on the occasion of my candidacy. I did not participate in party organs and I gave with dedication and fighting spirit the battle of the cross, both in the national elections (in the difficult single-member district of Kefalonia) and in the European elections.
3. I have never asked anyone to “place” me on a European candidate list. Besides, there was no provision for that. I participated, as is well known, in internal primaries along with dozens of other candidates. I was elected first in the region of Attica and thus included on the ballot paper for the European elections throughout the country. Some people would tell any lie for a few licks and some publicity.
It is also a traditional Stalinist practice to slander former comrades. But lies of this type will not solve the political deadlocks that liars face. “Envy is evil, and there is nothing good in it. For he is a wicked man’s eye and wine”. Envy is very bad, but it has one good thing: it melts the eyes and heart of the envious.”
