A powerful explosion occurred in the early hours of Friday morning, at about 03:50, at an ATM installed outside a supermarket in Vrilissia, causing the total destruction of the machine.
The unknown perpetrators, immediately after the explosion, grabbed the cases containing money and fled before authorities arrived.
The area was cordoned off by police, while experts were at the scene to examine how the explosive device was placed and activated.
At the same time, authorities are concerned that the incident coincided with the arson of three vehicles of the Attica Region in Maroussi. Officers of the National Police are considering the possibility that the two actions are linked and are investigating whether the arson acted as a distraction.
