The shared electric bicycle system was put into operation by the Municipality of Papagou-Holargos. The aim is to enhance sustainable mobility in the city with an environmentally friendly means of transport and at the same time reduce the use of private cars, in order to reduce congestion in the road network and improve the quality of life of residents.
The project was funded by the NSRF and includes 45 bicycles, which are located in seven locations:
- In the Municipal Hall
- At the Metro Station, National Defence stop
- At the Metro Station, Cholargos stop
- In the square of Saint George Papagos
- In Eleftherias Square in Papagou
- In the Papagos Sports Centre “Mayor Vasileiou Xydis”
- At the Sports Centre of Cholargos “Antonios Polydoras”
The bicycles are available free of charge to citizens, for use from 06:00 to 22:00, 7 days a week. The maximum time of use of each bicycle is 2 hours. All residents of the municipality, as well as visitors, are entitled to use the bikes, provided they are over 18 years old. The use of the bicycle is exclusively within the geographical limits of the municipality. The return of the bicycle is done at the designated stations, ensuring that they are properly locked and secured.
Those wishing to use the bikes will need to download a special app. In the event that the bicycle is not returned, the municipality reserveś the right to charge compensation to the user, as the user is solely and entirely responsible for the damage caused to the bicycle. The user can be authenticated in two ways, by means of taxisnet codes or by means of a bank card. Users of shared bicycles must wear a helmet and strictly follow the Road Traffic Code.
