How the eight were identified for the Kato Tithorea robbery
With lightning-fast action, the police officers of the Property Crimes Investigation Department of the Organized Crime Division managed to capture and arrest the robbers of Kato Tithorea, Fthiotida, just a few hours after the armed robbery and before they could reach their destination.
According to information from police sources so far, five members of the gang, namely the four men who took part in the robbery and one woman, were arrested on Monday afternoon near Alepochori, where they were ambushed by the AIOE police officers.
Specifically, according to the same information, after the armed robbery, the perpetrators abandoned the car they used on the road to Zemeno in Boeotia and fled the scene in another vehicle that picked them up and probably the woman who was with them at the time of the arrest.
The first car was found by policemen of Lamia Security, who had launched a manhunt and immediately alerted the AIOE team, which had already been mobilized.
The policemen acted purposefully, probably having specific clues about the persons and where the robbers were going, so they ambushed them and located them near Alepochori.
The perpetrators attempted to escape but were trapped on dead-end roads and were forced to surrender.
According to the same sources, the five arrested men were in possession of heavy weaponry, in particular four grenades, a Kalashnikov, a Scorpion submachine gun and four pistols, all ready for use, while the entire amount of money they had snatched from the bank in Kato Tithorea was also found in the car.
Soon afterwards, coordinated operations followed in Loutraki, where a woman was arrested, and in Athens, where two other men were arrested, while magazines, detonators and several cartridges were found in their homes.
All eight were taken to the GADA where they are being examined to determine each man’s role in the case.
It is noted that the accused are also being investigated for the armed robbery that took place last April at a bank in Kasitsa, Etoloakarnania, as well as any other robberies and criminal acts.
