The Government’s action programme for the implementation of major infrastructure projects and the key role of the construction sector and construction machinery in the country’s development path were the focus of the address by Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Christos Dimas at the opening of the 3rd ERGO International Exhibition.TEC.
“The Government of Kyriakos Mitsotakis is planning and implementing one of the largest programmes of actions in the construction sector of the country. To this end, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport is making use of national, European and private resources, such as our Sectoral Programme, the Recovery and Resilience Fund and private capital through PPPs,” said Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Christos Dimas.
He noted that resources of 2.36 billion euros are planned for 2026. for projects across the country, covering a wide range of interventions, including road, transport, rail, flood control, irrigation and building projects in sectors such as health, education and justice.
Special mention was made by Mr. Dimas made a special reference to flagship projects currently underway, such as the E65 motorway of Central Greece, the Northern Road Axis of Crete, the new airport in Kastelli, the extensions of the Athens and Thessaloniki Metro, the elevated expressway in Thessaloniki, as well as the rehabilitation of the railway network.
At the same time, the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport said that the contribution of professionals in the sector and the use of construction machinery are crucial for the timely, safe and quality completion of the projects.
In conclusion, Dimas noted “As the political leadership of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, we are seeking to simplify the institutional framework governing construction machinery in our country, giving significant opportunities to companies operating in the technical sector. To this end, we are proceeding with the immediate revision of the regulatory framework concerning the type approval of construction machinery, as well as the adoption of the necessary regulatory framework concerning the periodic technical inspection of construction machinery, in view of the implementation of the new European Regulation 2025/14.”
